New enhancements in the Linux kernel infrastructure and tooling (libtracefs and libtraceeval) has made it easier to see what applications are waiting on. See where the applications are blocked on I/O and for how long, as well as seeing where it is having contention on mutexes. Tooling has been enhanced to see the scheduling behavior of all the applications on the system and give insight on how to group tasks more efficiently. This talk will show the updates that have recently made it into the kernel as well as some of the new tracing libraries that make it easier to interact with the tracing infrastructure. Several examples will be given on real world use cases that the audience can then use for their own applications.
